Broxbourne Conservatives regret cancellation of Waltham Cross film studio

Broxbourne Conservatives today express their disappointment and frustration after being informed by the owners of Sunset Studios Waltham Cross that a studio development is no longer feasible, and alternative uses of the site will now be explored.

The site is allocated in the Borough’s approved Local Plan as a strategic employment site, and it is right that the Council now does all it can to work with the owners to ensure that what is developed there is high quality and brings jobs and investment to Broxbourne.

Broxbourne Conservatives, who were instrumental in securing this investment, are clear that the site must not and will not be used for housing or any low quality development that falls short of the expectations of residents.

It is doubly disappointing that the owners of the site attribute this U-turn in part to the poor state of the UK economy.

Since the Labour Government took office, business confidence has fallen dramatically 1, following a number of disastrous economic decisions taken by the Government which has severely impacted inward investment into the UK and forced companies like Sunset Studio's to re-consider their plans.

Despite these difficult conditions, Conservatives in Broxbourne will continue to do all they can to foster economic growth in our area, championing business to get good jobs for local people.
